Road leading to nowhere in Pinugay

It’s saddening to know that while the rest of us try to cope with the economy, we have a national government that increased the budget merely for travel. The Arroyo government has been accused of corrupting people’s money - NBN-ZTE deal, fertilizer fund scam, rice scam, hog raising scam, and more recently, the road scam which involves a member of the Senate. It’s not surprising therefore that experts have conceived our country as the 38th most corrupt in the world, out of 180 according to Transparency International.
Why can’t the government improve the countryside instead of enriching themselves? Last week, when I went to Barangay Pinugay, nothing much has changed as far as road condition is concerned. The 30 minute travel means getting bumps in the head as the vehicle literally bounces because of the rocky and muddy road. Of course, not all of the road leading to Pinugay is like that. There are few places, like those in front of the farms, that are cemented. We also saw a bridge with holes on it, with its steel foundations coming out.
Take a look at this photo taken two years ago. This is the road right after the dumpsite.

And this is the photo I took last week, almost at the same spot. There were some gravelling involved in the past few weeks.

I am not pointing any fingers to anyone. But wouldn’t it be nice if we think of ways on how to improve farm-to-market roads? By the way, a group of government officials trooped to Boracay few weeks back for an “educational tour.”
