For the love of Saint Joseph
Posted on March 20, 2009, 12:01 AM under Religious AffairsIt’s very seldom we do watch programs in Baras that’s well planned and rehearsed. And it’s even rare to see the most powerful persons in the town and in the province to be in one place and watch a musical production in honor of our town’s patron – Saint Joseph, Husband of Mary.

Representative Adelina Rodriguez-Zaldarriaga and Andrea Bautista-Ynares attended last night’s Harana kay San Jose. Directed by Webby Ferrera, it is, so far, the “cleanest” program I’ve seen. From the opening of the lights to the entry of the choirs, from Sister Act to a Maala-ala mo kaya scene, from praise songs to current movie theme songs, everything was well orchestrated.

Parish priest Romarico Hilario, Representative Adelina Rodriguez-Zaldarriaga, Andrea Bautista Ynares (wife of Governor Casimiro Ynares Jr) and Mayor Wilfredo Robles.

The highlight of the program, of course, are the church choirs who dressed up and really prepared their skits, dance and songs for the patron. The program commenced with a simple narration of the life of Saint Joseph. It was followed by church praise songs, then movie themes like A Very Special Love and You Changed My Life. Songs by Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Josh Groban and The Moffatts were also sung. A choir, whose members are in their 40s or 50s, sang kundiman songs. There were dance numbers but the one I like the most was a choir’s rendition of I Will Follow Him. Their costumes really made them look like nuns. By the way, there were real nuns who watched the program. It’s also safe to say that the church stairs were full of people.

Singing Maalaala Mo Kaya.

Aside from the ones singing on the stage, I saw some backup singers near the Barasenian Band who should also be commended for their good blending.

The night capped off with the raffle draw for those fund-raising tickets. A ticket buyer from Paranaque (I think) sold by a Catholic Women’s League member won the grand prize of P 15, 000.

More photos to follow once I’m finished editing them.

It’s first in a series presentation of talents by the members of the parish music ministry. There were great performers.
However, let it be noted that the program was conceived in honor of the feast of St. Joseph and yet there were parts that did not make sense at all in lieu of the main intent of the celebration.
May the organizers consider the reality of the performers Let us be pilgrims

However, let it be noted that the program was conceived in honor of the feast of St. Joseph and yet there were parts that did not make sense at all in lieu of the main intent of the celebration.
May the organizers consider the reality of the performers’ mission as pilgrims who could evangelize through their respective talents and performances.
Good that through the wide screen projection, limited yet substantial literature were given to refresh and educate the spectators about St. Joseph, who is supposedly the star of the celebration.
Thanks to those individuals who took initiative and thought of including said literature about St. Joseph.
Happy Feast Day of St. Joseph [husband of Mary] to all!

I agree with you BEST Bread!
March 22nd, 2009 at 9:56 am
Good observation from best bread.
But just the same, congratulations lalo na sa mga well-groomed and well-dressed performers.
March 24th, 2009 at 6:28 pm

March 26th, 2009 at 9:57 am

March 26th, 2009 at 11:35 am
Ako para sa kin the mini concert was a success…kung napanood nyo ung start ng program, the narration about life of St. Joseph, followed by the enthronement napakaganda…sinundan pa sya ng pag awit ng song para kay San Jose.. napakaraming hindi taga baras ang nanood and their amazed..taga antipolo, taga marikina, and i am from pasig, i also know how to sing and play musical instruments. but ung ginawa ng mga taga baras is nakakabilib, from dancers, to singing acapellas, singing solo, or duests, or choral, and singing lovesong medley na i heard iba ibang choir ang nagsama sama, to the great musicians and conductor, nakakalungkot lang mismong mga taga baras lang ang hindi marunong mag appreciate.. can you imagine most of choir groups in Baras participated in the mini concert..
March 26th, 2009 at 11:46 am
March 26th, 2009 at 1:10 pm

Our worth is not increased when people praise us; nor diminished when they criticize us. Our real worth depends on how GOD SEES US—no more, no less.
Let this portion serve as an avenue towards making an inspiring Barasenian community.
Say something good to feel good!
Let’s be objective with every observation that we will read and post.

March 27th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
March 27th, 2009 at 10:17 pm

i’ve been reading all what is posted in this website almost everyday of my life since the day i discovered it. this article about the concert made me really sick, homesick! i wanted to be there the moment i read this. i wished i never left town. but after reading the comments here, i felt sadness. obviously, the differences between choral groups are still alive. i’m pretty sure, their leaders then are still their leaders now. but how come this differences are still there? aren’t they make any effort to put everything behind for God’s sake? Obviously again, these people who call themselves God-servant are making fool of themselves. these people just love themselves. they don’t care what God will feel when they keep competing against each other. all they care is that they should be on top of the other. now, i pray to God, to pardon them coz they don’t know what they’re doing. they think they do, but they definitely don’t. may the good Lord forgive you for all your hypocrisy.

taga baras! thank you sa pag-sabi mo sakin na adik,,lingkod ka nga ni lord..godbless you..
April 1st, 2009 at 3:23 pm
to gwaping! nanuod ako ng mini concert sa Baras, street dance at iba pa. mas gusto ko street dance,,ang saya.. but mini concert, it’s good but not amaze..
April 1st, 2009 at 3:33 pm

April 1st, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Romarico Hilario .God Bless you,Sir Herbert.

once in a while it’s good to hear news about your fellow filipino succeed in their own endeavors, weather its on singing or anything under the sun. But do you know what is really depressing?for people like this SENIOR EXEC,ET AL. guys, here in canada- we’re very proud that some of the choir in here are asians- specifically FILIPINOS. What’s the catch dude?it’s the attitude of looking into someone else’s dirt on the face, without looking into OUR DIRTY face first!im not a member of any choir in baras or even here in canada, but i really don’t like the atmosphere in this site!you guys are making this a HUGE playground!anD your calling yourself GOD’S servant?!it’s lenten,we better renew our devotion to Him instead of throwing sour comments agaisnt each other!have some pride and consideration in everything we say towards one another.
please make this site a more pleasurable one for those filipinos abroad whos longing for our hometown.
don’t make this site a waste!
and guys, JUST GROW UP!
April 6th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
You’re exactly right – CANADIAN, I also feel that way that why everybody putting comments here are so hypocrites instead of being proud of our “kabayans” who did the effort for the festivity of our patron St. Joseph. For GOD’S SAKE, LET’S LOVE ONE ANOTHER. I grew up in Baras and most of the people are relatives.
Let’s embrace one another. Here in U.S, if I see a filipino, we always call one another “kabayan” wherever they came from and we are all united doing every festivities to honor our own culture. PROUD being PINOY.
Baras – please don’t mock or deride somebody so we become a respectable town.

To all the commentators on this issue:
Let this LENTEN SEASON remind us that our life and material possessions are just LENT to us.We are all passers-by…Pilgrims on the road…. at the end of our life’s journey, we’ll bring nothing but leave behind the LOVE we have shared, the HOPE we have given and the GOODNESS we have done to our brethren.
I strongly believe that Baras Rizal Online was created for a PURPOSE; of making the BARASENIAN COMMUNITY an INSPIRING COMMUNITY where its people could shed light and nurture the gift of life.
GIVE CREDIBLE and CHALLENGING YET INSPIRING COMMENTS.
Have JOY! Have Jesus Over You not just this Lenten season but all through out life’s journey!

April 7th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
I think it’s time to close this comment box,sad to say di na maganda ang comment ng iba and some are really good, kaso yung mga nagkokomento are already grown up ,mahirap ng mabago pa ang mga paniniwala lalo na kung di naman talaga tumatanggap, let’s make this site more responsible for our town.just like the old days na konti pa lang kaming mga nakatira sa baras.na lahat ay natutuwa sa kahit na anong palabas, kahit ang libreng pasine na john en masha sa palengke ay puno ng manonood
April 7th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
To all my fellow commentators:
It’s Lenten season and it is an opportune time to reflect:
If God has to pay you P1 for every kind word that you will speak and take away P1 for every unkind word that you’ll say….,
WOULD YOU THEN BE RICH OR POOR?
I strongly adhere that Baras Rizal Online is created to INSPIRE and CHALLENGE for the BETTERMENT of our BARASENIAN COMMUNITY vis-a-vis the development of our total being as proud Barasenians.
April 7th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Just like stuff, i also recommend mr web manager that this portion be closed to give way to Lenten reflections.

good job mr. herbert carigma for this website. browsing this site everyday makes me feel that i’m still home. MISS NA MISS KO ANG BARAS. -sana maayos ang lahat diyan..

The moment i discovered this site maybe last 3 weeks ago while i was browsing blogs from philstar and inq7.net in mozilla firefox and safari. I was in the mall waiting for my colleague, keeping myself busy since i always bring my notebook with me, when i eventually discover this BRO.AS i browse thru the lines there was this nostalgia feelings that lingers, Am out of the country and i miss my family in Baras…But I am a bit disappointed whenever i open posts that there are always bloggers who quarrel on line in whatever topics posted… MAPA MGA NAMUMUNO, MAPA POLITIKA, MAPA BAYAN… MAPA ESKWELAHAN.. and now FOR THE LOVE OF ST. JOSEPH, still the same, nagbabangayan pa rin, meron pa gustong magpatayan,I keep asking myself kung mga taga Baras ba talaga ang nagpopost ng blog sa site na ito? The way I see it, the attitude of Crab mentality still very much alive (not to mention all)to some Barasenians. How can we earn the trust from others especially those who wants to visit the town when the people themselves does’nt have the trust and believe to the skills and talent of their kapwa taga Baras…Mga Kabayan, nasa computer age na tayo ngayun, di na uso yong Crab mentality. Laos na yon, What we have now is the CHANGE OF CLIMATE…THE THREAT OF GLOBAL WARMING, what we should know and what we should do….What are the positive steps to save our planet…Buti pa yon na lang ang pagtuunan natin ng pansin. Magkaisa tayo thru this site para makatulong tayo thru basic information ON HOW WE CAN SAVE OUR PLANET. This time is the time that we should be concerned of the rising temperature and the danger that we are about to encounter in the years to come. ITS NOW TIME TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER AND HELP ONE ANOTHER…Oks ba mga kapatid??

To the Administrator:
I suggest to post a topic about Global Warming and have a discussion on line just to inspire public awareness…The topic is more important and very interesting..WE can gather ideas and information that could be best of help not only to the Barasenians but to all people around globe. We can always be partners in saving our mother earth. Nwayz, its not hard to give life to our fingers by posting credible articles that can help solve if not reduce further damage to our environment.
