"Peaks of Green" exhibit for a Baras artist
Posted on March 25, 2009, 8:18 PM under Proudly BarasenianIf there’s one aspect of living in the province that I like, it’s the serenity and simplicity of life. I wake up not so much because of the noisy vehicles but due to ray of sunlight that shines across my bed, the rooster’s crow and the chirping of the maya birds. As you go further in the countryside, the scenery of the palayan and vegetable farms is just breathtaking, something you won’t find in the metro.
It’s nice to know then that painter Adler Llagas gives his own twist to beautiful landscapes. He will hold his first one-man exhibit next week in SM Megamall.

In a brief chat this morning at the municipal hall, I learned that he is a true-blooded Barasenian. He’s the ninth child of Delfin and Macaria and now lives in Barangay Mabini with his wife Lucia Lacerna and their three children.

At first glance of his works, one cannot help but opine that it looks like a Fernando Amorsolo – nature, life in the rice field, or anything simple in the kanayunan. The 31-year old self-taught artist however takes it to a different level. He recreates whatever he sees in nature and adds his own details in terms of elements and lighting. He sometimes takes photographs of the scenery and turn them later into a canvas. He draws his inspiration from the mountains of in Baras, Jala-jala, Malaya, Tanay, Tumauini in Isabela and Mount Banahaw in Batangas.

“The starting pont is always a first quick impression of wht he actually sees on a certain day and at a certain hour, in certain weather. From this he will make small oil sketches which retain the freshness of the original jotting, rendered with brushstrokes that seem to tremble with the joy of painting, which fo him is the joy of life. What makes the finished painting so outstanding is not its subject matter but its simplicity and luminosity, its color sense, its celebration of physical sensation,” this is how the primer described the style of Adler.
So again, if you happen to be in SM Megamall Building A next week, please drop by the SM Art Center on the 4th floor of the mall. The exhibit opens on Friday, April 3 at 6 pm. It will run until April 19.
See you there.

It’s an amazing masterpiece! Way to go “Adler”! I’m very proud of you. I didn’t know that I have a relative who is turning to be a very good painter. Mabuhay ang mga taga-Baras – lalo na sa Llagas Family!
- Sana malayo pa ang marating mo.

My wife and I are interested to house at least one of Adler’s paintings, especially those that capture one of Baras beautiful sceneries. What are the sizes of those 3 landscape paintings shown and their prices. Any email address or contact numbers?
