Municipal gov't to donate money for church improvement
Posted on February 27, 2009, 2:34 AM under Places to Visit, Religious AffairsOn the same session where they said no to declare March 19 as a special non-working holiday, councilors agreed for the municipality to donate money for the improvement of Saint Joseph parish church.
The councilors said yes to the request of parish priest Romarico Hilario for financial support for the development of the church patio. The total amount the church asks is P 61, 700. See the letter below.

It has to be made clear though that what the councilors agreed upon is to grant authority to the mayor to give financial assistance for the church improvement. It is up to the local government chief to decide on how much the municipality will give.
Only one councilor – Jose Evangelista, questioned the proposal. He said that it is illegal to donate money to private entities. Councilor Renato Llagas however explained that the municipality will not “donate” money to the church but will instead assist in developing a historical place.
Sought for reaction, Hilario is happy with the council’s decision. “Kung maaprubahan, salamat. The church is one of the treasures of the municipality,” he said.
