Honoring Cory Aquino
Posted on August 5, 2009, 11:00 PM under Outside BarasFew hours ago, former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino was laid to rest next to her husband Benigno Aquino. Until her death, she was given the honor fitting, not only for a former leader, but a hero.
I wasn’t born yet when Ninoy Aquino was assassinated in 1983. I was very young when Cory rose to power. I didn’t have any idea of what Martial Law or People Power was. But the democracy and freedom that we celebrate now, we have to owe it on the Filipino people as inspired by Cory.

As I watch the necrological service last night, I have come to realize how great this woman is. Mother, sibling, employer, friend – you cannot help but have praises on her. Seldom do we get leaders who have a deep faith in God and exudes that same devotion in running the country. Even if she was already out of power, she continued to be the voice of truth and courage. While some of our present leaders have become glued to power, Cory remained a humble servant of our country. While some politicians see being in power as a means to an evil end, she saw her leadership as president as the end in itself.
Thank you God, for having someone like Cory, to be lent to us and inspired us. Now that she is in Your kingdom, may we continue to fight her causes and to always believe in the Filipino people.

The Filipinos and the entire world lost a great leader who brought back democracy in the Philippines. She was able to defend it against serious several coup attempts during her administration. The freedom that we now enjoy in the Philippines was the product of this great woman’s sacrifices, pure intentions, and love for her country. Her accomplishments could not be surpassed or equaled by any living and/or current leaders of the country. Mrs. Aquino’s incorruptible governance, love of country, and humility made us proud to be a Filipino. May her spirit lives.
