Political websites, anyone?
Posted on November 19, 2009, 7:42 PM under GovernmentIt was believed that US President Barack Obama won the election last year by using new media to campaign and encourage the youth to vote for him. People vying for the presidential post in the country also have their own websites. I wonder if local candidates will do the same.

Previous layout of barackobama.com

Websites of Noynoy Aquino, Gibo Teodoro and Manny Villar
If former mayor Dionisio Donato Garciano will have his own website, it’ll probably focus on his academic achievements. It could feature his degrees earned in the nation’s top universities – University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University, and in the future, De La Salle University. His training and researches in management and public administration would make him a good leader, that is, if he will put into practice what he had learned in school. His membership to civic organizations and closeness with the President should also be included. The website should also feature his future plans for Baras once he’s elected.
dindogarciano.com?

Mayor Wilfredo Robles, on the other hand, could probably feature his beginnings in the government, from being a barangay chariman, vice mayor and eventually the mayoralty post. His website should describe his management styles after being a mayor for two terms. Documents that would prove improvements in economy and infrastructure should be posted. His specific plan of actions once elected for the third term should also be featured.
wilfredorobles.com?

Having a paid website is so cheap that its cost is probably equal to 20 shirts given away during campaigns. It is cheaper than any medium. But of course, content should be complemented with substance. Both websites should be very specific in their platform of government, and not just utter motherhood statements. Instead of attacking each other, they should say instead the reasons people should vote for him. They should also post profile pages of each candidate in the Sangguniang Bayan member posts.

“Where is the money?”
That is the question that I want to ask Mayor Pedro “Ping” Cuerpo, if I had a chance to talk to him.
Montalban (Rodriguez), the northernmost town of Rizal province is poised for growth, thanks to its growing population from forcedly relocated squatters from Metro Manila. Income from taxes grew and there are enough human resources and consumers for commercial establishments to thrive. Montalban also had steady earnings from its quarrying industry.
Aside from the aforementioned, Montalban also earns at least one million daily for being Metro Manila’s dumpsite. Unfortunately, with all this income coming in, Montalban’s development never really took off.
The culprit? Mayor Cuerpo.
The mayor had been busy enriching himself. Mysteriously, he and his family began owning many idle and untitled lands in the municipality. Many municipal projects started before the past elections were left rotting and their funds missing. The municipal hall is filled with idle employees who fondly call as “tayo-man” and “upo-man” because they do nothing but for their salaries.
Extreme Greed Comes Before a Fall
The mayor was suspended from his office due to an allegation of corruption. After a squabble with Rizal Governor Jun Ynares, Mayor Cuerpo was investigated for the “missing” millions of pesos earned from the sanitary landfill.
Cuerpo’s supporters claim that his suspension are politically motivated and grounded on false allegation. I disagree. I had been witness to corruption in our town. His stay as a mayor is long enough. Let him be kicked-out of the municipal hall and be prosecuted for his unworthy deeds as “public servant.”

Kung sa Montalban ginawa niya yan. Sa Rizal pa kaya!! ang sabi, puro basketball court lang at waiting shed ang ginawa ni ynares. Ok lang, at least yun nakikita. May bago pang kapitolyo.

Tsk. Tsk.

Barack Obama won because of his excellent grassroots campaign and communtity organization. What made him more popular was his new media approach in campaigning.
