Councilor decries people's non-support on government projects
Posted on September 9, 2008, 5:58 PM under GovernmentAs part of the celebration of Philippine Councilor’s Week, a councilor here decried the non-support of some Barasenios on government projects.
During the flag raising ceremony at the municipal grounds last Sep. 1, Councilor Mario Mendoza said that despite the efforts of the local government to improve the lives of their constituents, some still do not patronize their projects.
He said local officials are much like Jesus during the old times. He said that these projects are recognized by other LGUs and other organizations, yet they are unnoticed in the town. The soft-spoken councilor said this right after reading the gospel that day. (A copy of the gospel that day can be found in the Daily Gospel.)
Sana ay magkatulong-tulong tayong lahat,” Mendoza said before municipal employees, police officials, barangay captains and health workers.
While he did not mention any specific group of persons who undermine the local government, he pleaded to all his constituents to support all government projects.
Mayor Wilfredo Robles agreed on Mendoza’s message.

Robles and Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member Wilmer Elago alo awarded to the councilors the trophy they won for landing second place in the PCL sports league.

The Councilor was right. Karapatan mo yan kabayan!!! Sa panahon na lang ng halalan. Wait na lang sa 2010!!
September 23rd, 2008 at 5:33 am

“PATALSIKIN” should not always the solution to wrong doings! Lahat nagkakamali, lahat ba dapat patalsikin? What’s the good thing about that? I have no suggestion for that problem. I think it’s always MAJORITY WINS strategy should be heard.

I suggest sports like baseball and soccer league. I know from this sports, Filipino will excel and might go in Olympics like Venezuella, Mexico, Japan and other small oriental countries like ours. You never know we might have a representative from a small town Baras. It’s a wonderful civic movement to provide some funds for this youth league. Let’s start now!!!
I might help to send some “konting donation”, all I need to know are trusworthy officials who will lead this cause. If we have Many Pacquiao in boxing, Paeng Nepumuceno in bowling, we should also be known in baseball, soccer and other sports that we think Filipinos can win.

do you hit me, pagong sa ilog? NO!
i don’t need to open my eyes just to know what’s goin on… it seems to me that you’re blind or you don’t know what you’re saying.
i’ve been a very active youth and athlete in my time, which was like a decade ago. luckily, i was a very disclined and God fearing person not to join most of the athletes doing their favorite “stuff” after every practices and games. and another thing, it’s not just the players but the trainors and coaches, too. this might be a little too shocking on you, but it’s true. i won’t say, ask around coz the answers might not be precise. just open your eyes, and you’ll know.
we’re probably sharing the same in dream in sports, you just judged me too fast! good luck to you!
October 28th, 2008 at 4:47 am
i’m sorry pagong sa ilog.
i made a mistake in my previous comment of answering back at you. it was meant for NAGMAMALASAKIT SA BAYAN. but the last part of it that we share the same dream in sports was for you. it’s good to know that there are many of us who believe that those things can happen.
let’s keep believing!

Spearheading the boost of economy by keeping the people from nearby towns and other cities come to Baras for a Fair, Festivals or Themed Park….
This is one of the strategies implemented by various cities and counties locally and abroad in order to boost their economy; they had created TRADE FAIRS, FESTIVALS or THEMED PARKS to make people come to their place.
e.g.: when there are people coming, there’s this need for drinking water, snacks and such. this would boost the sari-sari stores sales, right? sales growth of small businesses creates a chain-reaction such as enhancing sustainable income. sustainable income means sustainable revenue; these taxes from the small business owners could apparently be able to finance other sustainable projects.
like THEMED PARK? (in wawa i supposed..?)
small wonder but by keeping those people come and see the beauty of baras, there’s a big chance that our economy shall be boosted up gradually.
FESTIVALS and other FESTIVITIES such as tromba is one of the best examples, where people from other cities gather to give tribute to our Mama Mary.
INTER-BARANGAY TRADE FAIR. During the trade fair, all baranggay shall exhibit what they can to offer, like the Biggest Pumpkin produce, or the biggest Tilapia Producer, etc. Various sales of arts and crafts can also be incorporated. There are many out of school youth, why not let them work for minimal wages to initiate arts and crafts and make use of their talents? Human resources is one of the most financially viable means that Baras could start with. Trade Fair had happened before during the 70′s, why not do it again?
Although some things are better said than done, why not use the current slogan: ‘KAYANG KAYA KUNG TAYO’Y SAMA-SAMA….?”
If you got imaginative and resourceful mind, then you’ll know exactly what i mean..

Hey Nagmamahal Sa Kabataan!!! What happened to you? Are you in deep slumber? I’m just inrigued by your comments. Keep on Fighting kid!!!!

November 1st, 2008 at 6:28 pm
bakit hindi dapat sabihin? e nangyayari nga? mahirap bang intindihin yun?
November 5th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Cool lang my friends!!! We will always agree on sports as character development tool for the youth. Well, iba ‘ata ang “dini-develop” sa atin. Softball and Baseball are losing popularity, but we have now rumble, gamble, dedbol, at si Tambol. Wala nga tayong Scuba Diving, but we now have Shabu Trading. Meron daw tayong sikaran!! Saan? Mag-surf ka and you will see Sikaran so popular in The States!!! Taga-Baras and head nila. Paano, ayaw pansinin sa bayan natin. Chess and Games-of-the-Generals are now replaced with Mahjong and Tong-its! Wala nga tayong horseback riding, because we don’t have horses, but, a lot of horsing around!!! Walang swimming, because you’ll throw-up in our river-like sump-pit and in the lake of sludge. The richy rich? They swim on their beds of corrupted peso bills! And of course, we have Sports Clashes of Sabong!! No golf, but gulp, gulp, gulp!!! Emperador, Matador, GSM, Tanduay, Gin, Cobra-Lambanog…… name it man!!! WE HAVE THEM ALL! Steeple-chase? No, robbery-chase, car-chase! May tricycle race, mtorcycle race, that resulted in deaths of so many! MIdnight bosses lustfully danced the night away with all the strokes, BREASTstroke, Butterfly, Backstroke, and Freestyle!! No 100,200,400 meter dash or any running of sort. Every 3 years, a lot of running transpires for the prize of corruption, power, guns, and golds. Weather-weather lang daw, ika nga!! But, we have erratic weather now because of climate change! Ingat kayo! Baka kayo ang tamaan ng Weather-Weather Lang! The Hall is like a clogged gym. Basketball is played. Vault being tossed in the hoop, elbows flying that caused BUKOL all around. A driving lay-up with TONG-PATS all over. No Zone defense, but PERMISSIBLE ZONE by Lozada. Dun lahat ng games, man!! Padding, Diverting, Laundering, Lying, Laying, all to gain the GREED TROPHY!

florante, those things are just so true!!!!!!!
wake up, people!!!!!!!
November 7th, 2008 at 2:46 am
you said it all florante. due to my absence for more than 20 years in Baras…
(learning a lot from this website., thank you)

Dell and Pagong:
Don’t be disheartened! may survivors pa naman! These are people like you. People with genuine concern on our town. I don’t lose hope either. As the saying goes: THERE’S A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL / THERE’S A RAINBOW AFTER THE STORM. We are Barasenians, and we shall always be!!
November 7th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
November 7th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Tama Ka kabayan. Laging may bukas ! You may be thousands of miles away, but many thanks with the technology now.. We seem to be in a forum physically together. Baras needs all of you !

November 25th, 2008 at 4:13 am
nakakatuwa ka naman. nagmamalasakit…
you still don’t get my point.
what i just said, nakakalungkot kase sa sports events madalas nagsisimula ang drugs, etc. i have nothing against having a sports activities in our town. as i’ve said, i spent my youth enjoying sports. that’s why i knew about the extra curricular activities ng mga players and coaches. i suggest, what the people in command should do, is not just commence the sports but rather watch the events more carefully so not to give the youth and the pushers the chance to have a touch on drugs.
nagmamalasakit, you said that i should join you in saving the youth. don’t worry, i already started saving some of them long before this website exists. i’ve been a very active contributor to my community whenever there’s a sports events. it’s just sad that i am no longer physically present that i no longer participate anymore. besides, not just in sports that i am helpful. at my age (early 30s), i already sent some youth to college and still helping some. i am saying these things so you know that i am not just good in writings but also in actions. we don’t need to know who we are. what’s important is that we know how to read and listen to what we say here. we should not just throw criticisms to each other especially when we don’t fully understand what the other people meant. be careful next time, please.
