Posted on January 29, 2008, 11:46 AM under Culture and TraditionLet’s try to compare the celebrations in Rizal Рbe it religious or plainly cultural. This was culled from Evolutions, the Rizal 2004 Yearbook published by ALZ Publishing. It’s owner is Avelino Zapanta, the former president of Philippine Airlines. He is based in Taytay, Rizal. He also published Manila East Watch where I was a writer for about a year.

The time the book was published, Baras and Morong do not celebrate the feasts of the patrons on their respective recognized dates.Sanrok festival was only made a few years back. This was the only year that the church people of Baras extensively promoted March 19 as the feast date of Saint Joseph husband of Mary.

The information did not come from me. It was from the yearbook. Besides, it’s no longer the last Sunday of January.
