Mind your own trash

Posted on 10 August '09 under Street Stories | 2 Comments

I was once invited to a birthday party where I met one of the regular readers of BRO. She came from the US and told me that one thing she noticed about the town, when she comes home, is its garbage. You see trash everywhere-roadside, river, market, in front of houses. I have no reason to doubt that she is right but I still believe things can change. Only if we become a “town of character” (as one mayor put it), discipline could be in place.

For more than two years now, I have always been dependent to Smart Broadband as my Internet service provider. Though I experienced some downtimes, I would say that service is generally “acceptable.”

Fitness first every Saturday

Posted on 09 March '09 under Street Stories | 3 Comments

Whenever I pass by the Ever Gotesco mall in Ortigas every Saturday morning, I notice a group of women doing some exercise in tune of the latest pop music. Same thing in Rosario in Pasig City – women wearing jogging pants and rubber shoes, performing dance like exercises, running, stretching their legs and arms and other aerobic exercises.

Road leading to nowhere in Pinugay

Posted on 24 September '08 under Street Stories | 6 Comments

It’s saddening to know that while the rest of us try to cope with the economy, we have a national government that increased the budget merely for travel. The Arroyo government has been accused of corrupting people’s money – NBN-ZTE deal, fertilizer fund scam, rice scam, hog raising scam, and more recently, the road scam which involves a member of the Senate. It’s not surprising therefore that experts have conceived our country as the 38th most corrupt in the world, out of 180 according to Transparency International. Read the rest of this entry »

When Baras National High School was still housed in the current municipal building, I‚Äôve always felt that there must be something wrong with the gymnasium. The gym served as an extension of the school back in 1998 when the classrooms weren‚Äôt sufficient to the burgeoning population. Read the rest of this entry »

I have been seeing this sign along JP. Rizal street for some time now. I find nothing wrong with it because the intention to communicate is there – that they repair refrigerators, airconditioning units and washing machine. But what is ‚Äúmaski‚Äù? Read the rest of this entry »

“Warrantless” arrest at Agape

Posted on 03 May '08 under Street Stories | No Comments

If you happen to watch last Thursday’s Agape which also featured some local bands, then you’d see for sure the man who was put in jail by the police for disrupting the program. GSM Blue, who was one of the sponsors of the Tromba Festival held a drinking contest. All five contestants were already on stage when suddenly, this man in yellow appeared and insisted to be a part of the contest. Organizers said that they only need five contestants but he could join the next batch. The man then drank all the alcohol in the cup. Organizers asked the help of the police and the man was arrested. Sabunutan disrupts singing contest

Posted on 01 May '08 under Street Stories | No Comments

This just in. Half an hour ago I was in the town plaza to watch the amateur singing contest sponsored by the Falcon Civic Club. At around 12:10 AM, I noticed a commotion in my back. Apparently, two women were pulling each other‚Äôs hair. My photojournalism instinct in me prompted me to take pictures of the fight. Police came in (uniformed and un-uniformed) and was able to separate the two fighting women. They were not identified. Read the rest of this entry »
