Fiesta once again

Posted on 10 March '08 under Culture and Tradition, Religious Affairs | No Comments

As you passes by Baras this week, you would think that it‚Äôs fiesta, again. At least for Barangays San Juan and Santiago. The barangays were filled with banderitas. We cannot blame people from other towns from thinking that Barase√±os may be too rich to celebrate fiestas three times a year, with a month in between: last Sunday of January, March 19 and May 1. I guess we are already settled on when the town feast is. Read the rest of this entry »

Fr. Rico Hilario: Feast on March 15 has a basis

Posted on 27 January '08 under Culture and Tradition, Religious Affairs | No Comments

I know that most of our kababayans are confused (again!) on when we should celebrate the town fiesta. More than three years after the Sangguniang Bayan approved an ordinance setting the town fiesta on the last Sunday of January, parish priest Rico Hilario now says that it should be March 19. As that day falls in Holy Wednesday, the Church decided that it will be celebrated on March 15 (Read the Catholic Online article here.). This confirms the earlier post that there will be no activities for this year‚Äôs fiesta. Read the rest of this entry »

Pit Señor!!! Viva Sto. Niño

Looking at the faithful and the crowd who processioned the images of the Holy Child, it would be safe to say that the first ever celebration of the Sto. Niño festival was a success. I didn’t realize you can do so much with that famous image, from a farmer to a nurse, from a student to a member of the knights of the altar, from Robin to a basketball player. Christmas Eve Mass 2007

Posted on 26 December '07 under Religious Affairs | No Comments

The mass started earlier than scheduled, so I would say that I was 5 minutes late. Parish priest Rico Hilario was already in the facade of the church and the moment I comforted myself standing on the center isle, a spotlight came into my face, then suddenly to my back. My teacher in high school, Annabelle Anabo is holding an image of a baby Jesus, with her husband Christian. They walked towards the church and gave the image to Fr. Rico. This is the first and last time that I attended the simbang gabi this 2007. Work requires me to be in the office from 10 pm to 7 am of the next day. It was my day off last Monday and yesterday, but I have to take photos of the misa de gallo in Tanay, Rizal for a project. Read the rest of this entry »

Liwanag ng Buhay: Simbahan at Pamilya

Posted on 10 November '07 under Religious Affairs | No Comments

Read the rest of this entry »
