Movies and TV shows shot in Baras

Our town is lucky enough to be the location of some movies and television series. While producers and TV executives could go to the periphery of Metro Manila, like Bulacan and Laguna, to film, it is heartening to note that they chose our little town. We had that peak of “shootings” in the ’90s where the most common sites are the Catholic church and the now-defunct Rural Bank of Baras.

Here’s the rundown of movies and TV shows whom I remembered to have been shot in Baras. Feel free to add to the listing if you recall other shows.

Ben Tumbling
Shown in 1985 and starred Lito Lapid, Vivian Velez and Eddie Garcia. Here’s a photo of Lapid and employees of the bank.

Angelito San Miguel – Batang City Jail
This is stellar cast of Raymart Santiago, Kier Legaspi, Kempee de leon, Joko Diaz, Gary Estrada, Charito Solis and Perla Bautista. Movie shown in 1986.

Pahiram ng Isang Umaga
A movie shown in 1989 and featured Gabby Concepcion, Vilma Santos, Eric Quizon, Zsa Zsa Padilla and the young Billy Crawford. According to my mom, there was a scene where Gabby tries to borrow money from the rural bank.

Kahit Konting Pagtingin
Starring Fernando Poe Jr and Sharon Cuneta. Shown in 1990.

Mayor Latigo
The only film made for a Barasenian – former mayor Meliton Geronimo. The cast includes Eddie Garcia as Mayor Latigo, Jess Lapid and Marianne dela Riva.

Jaime Labrador: Sakristan Mayor
Stars Raymart Santiago, Jaime Garchitorena and Bob Soler. Shown in 1992.

Ober da Bakod 2
There was a wedding scene in this 1994 movie of Janno Gibbs, Anjo Yllana, Leo Martinez and Malou de Guzman. This was the only time I saw the young Donita Rose who is very mestiza.

The Lilian Velez Story
A 1995 movie featuring Sharon Cuneta and Cesar Montano.

Maricel Drama Special
I can’t recall the year but I distinctly remember this episode where Maricel Soriano played a nun, and saw Virgin Mary in an apparition. The house used was that of the Ola√±o’s in Barangay Santiago.

Mangarap Ka
A 2004 TV series in ABS-CBN starring Piolo Pascual.

Sukob
A 2006 horror movie starring Kris Aquino and Claudine Baretto. Claudine was wed in the Catholic church.

Lupin
A TV series in GMA 7 shown in 2007. Stars Richard Gutierrez, Janno Gibbs, Rhian Ramos and Katrina Halili.

Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang
A 2009 TV series by Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes. Some scenes were shot in a subdivision in Barangay Pinugay being developed by Sta. Lucia Realty.

JUST RECEIVED THIS FROM MY SIS. I WANT TO SHARE THIS WITH ALL OF YOU…..
……make sure you read all the way through
    (most importantly the last sentence)

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down.

He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all.

He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, ‘You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence.

The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. But It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound will still be there.

A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Remember that friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed.

They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.’

Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND, even if it means sending it back to the person who sent it to you!

YOU ARE MY FRIEND AND I AM HONOURED!

Send this to every friend you have And to your family. They need to know that you love them too.

Please forgive me if I have ever left a ‘hole’ in your fence.

Don’t forget that Mayor Dindo brought EAT BULAGA during one of the Tromba Festivals in his term. It was live from the Church Patio. That was a very good exposure for the town that we should get more of.
