Primary Education
Assuming the same 1995 age-sex distribution for census year 2000, about 40.79% of the total population falls within the schooling age (6 to 24 years old). 17.20% is considered within the elementary level, 8.68% in the secondary level and 14.91% in the tertiary level.
Primary Level
The total enrollment for public school SY 1999-2000 is shown in Table 6. This shows a total enrolment of 3,649. There are three private elementary schools namely the St. Joseph Parochial School, Peter Pan Learning Center and the Concepcion Montessori. It is estimated that the combined total enrolment of the three schools is around 700 students thus, exceeding the total number of children aging 6-12 of 3486 in 1999.
Assuming a class size of 45 students, one (1) teacher per class and one (1) classroom per class, there is already a shortage of 20 teachers and 13 classrooms for public elementary education for SY 1999-2000. The situation will be worsened as population increases after SY 2000-2001, thus increasing further the demand.
