Please ask for permission before using BRO photos
Posted on April 30, 2009, 11:49 AM under All About BarasEdited photos of the church that I took last year were used without permission, not once, but twice.
I am compelled to bring this out so that all visitors of this site would know that Baras photos may be on the web, but it doesn’t mean that it could be extracted and used without the photographer’s permission. I am specifically referring to published photos in a previous post “Church in your computer.”
Last March, Saint Joseph Parish distributed a program for the feast of our patron. At the back page, you could see the photo of the church without any notes there on who took it or where it was from. But I’m a little bit forgiving if it was used by the church. For one, I am a Christian and I feel that this might be my own contribution to the church. And second, I personally know some church people so it feels awkward to ask them for some compensation for the photos. So if the parish will use my photo, I’ll gladly give it to them, but please, ask permission.

But when I saw a wedding invitation bearing the a version of the photo last night, I thought myself that I wouldn’t let this pass. Is it difficult to send an email or post a comment before using the photo? Months ago, Banco de Baras asked me if they could use some photos in this site. After knowing which photo they will use, I allowed them to use them, and I did not ask for anything.

Those weren’t the only instances where photos were use without permission or attribution to the photographer. In 2006, a tabloid “reporter” used three photos which I took during the first organic festival and published it as his own. Worst, he or the newspaper earned from it because it was published as a press release and not a reportage. Incidentally, that reported was in the municipal hall that time to get the check. I confronted him in front of the mayor and the municipal administrator.

Also, two Friendster accounts bear photos that I took. Check out Baras Rizal and Baras Rizal.
Thank you for appreciating the images posted in this website. But please, if you will use it, please ask permission and acknowledge it. It won’t take much of your time.

Right, like i’ve said, whenever i open this site, theres always that nostalgia feeling that lingers and I find peace in just merely viewing st. joseph parish church even in pictures only. but i didn’t get any copy ha…i planned also to get a copy sana, (the sun rises in wawa and the secret paradise)but you announce it already..mejo napahiya na ako…well anyway, you are just making our spirits alive by just merely looking at it.

I don’t mind if anybody downloads the pix. What irritates me is when I see it published (in print with multiple copies or in the web) without permission. Had anybody ask for permission, I would love to give them the original and larger version.

The website creator is just asking for a little courtesy in using the pics and videos na pinagpapaguran niya.
Why don’t you just be thankful that someone is serving us and the people of Baras without pay!!! If ever makilala man si Herbert, its because of his works and not by anything else.

Tama ka jan Sheryl, Tsaka bkit di na lang gawing positibo ang papanaw kaya gusto ni Mr. Admin na magpaalam muna dahil gusto niya malaman kung sino sino ang nagkagusto sa pinaghirapan niya..? I dont think it will destroy your whole being if you ask permission from the author of this site.. Whether or not there is a permission from the proper Authority provided that the picture is used in its good intention, i don’t think it is prohibited by law.. The mere fact that this site is a town carrier for its introduction to tourism, it is just proper to post some nice spots and land mark that will encourage people to come and visit not just this site but to the Town of Baras in general. So if you really love your town you will also recognize the efforts of the administrator who is doing his very best to make his job well done. Every barasenian has its humble beginnings, you can not be a true barasenian if you will not accept that facts. So its much better if you will stop your arrogant behavior and just respect what the author’s opinion would be.. It wont harm us, people. Ang tunay na taga Baras, kahit nagkakasamaan ng loob, nagkakatulongan pa rin at the end of the day. Tandaan mo, iyan ang kaugalian ng isang tunay na Barasenio. Tatak na yan sa pagkatao mo saan lupalop ka man ng mundo naroon.
