Morbidity

Control of Acute Respiratory Infection (CARI) together with parasitism has been the leading cause of morbidity in Baras. Diarrhea, bronchitis and pneumonia were common for infants and children aged one (1) to four(4). Diarrhea has been the leading morbidity cause at the national (1989-1993 & 1994) and Regional (1994) levels. Bronchitis, influenza and pneumonia were next leading causes (respectively) for the same period at the national and regional levels.

The frequent occurrence of diarrhea has been confirmed by the survey among households, wherein 32% of the respondents indicated that  children below five (5) years old have had at least two episodes of diarrhea.
