Language

Majority of the people in Baras speak Tagalog. It is estimated that 88.04% of population in Baras speaks the language based on the 1990 census. This percentage decreased to 84.85% in the 1995 census. Surprisingly, almost all dialects are spoken in Baras. Among the major ones spoken are Bikolano (3.93%), Waray (2.22%), Ilokano (2.00%), Cebuano (2.25%) and Hiligaynon/Ilonggo (1.19%). In 1995, Ilokano, Hiligaynon/Ilonggo, Cebuano and Waray were only 0.73%, 0.46%, 0.85% and 1.62%.
