How much do our officials earn?

Almost every time I attend a Sangguniang Bayan session, there would always be someone who would be asking for help from our local legislators. This made me curious. Magkano ang sweldo ng mga opisyal ng pamahalaan at parang nanganganak ng pera ang kanilang mga bulsa? Read the rest of this entry »

How do Rizaleños celebrate feasts?

Let’s try to compare the celebrations in Rizal - be it religious or plainly cultural. This was culled from Evolutions, the Rizal 2004 Yearbook published by ALZ Publishing. It’s owner is Avelino Zapanta, the former president of Philippine Airlines. He is based in Taytay, Rizal. He also published Manila East Watch where I was a writer for about a year. Fr. Rico Hilario: Feast on March 15 has a basis

I know that most of our kababayans are confused (again!) on when we should celebrate the town fiesta. More than three years after the Sangguniang Bayan approved an ordinance setting the town fiesta on the last Sunday of January, parish priest Rico Hilario now says that it should be March 19. New Year’s Wishlist for Baras Part 2

How many times have you seen the police walk around the town and just check out what’s going in the community? Good News on the Net for Baras, Rizal

As promised, Baras, Rizal has something good to offer in the Internet last year. It’s not all bad news after all. As I monitor the websites that mention the term “Baras, Rizal,” there are only two good items: Punta de Fabian and the Philippine National Police housing project. Let’s focus first on the housing project. Read the rest of this entry »

Lame Christmas, No Fiesta?

Perhaps I was just used for the local government to always have something to showcase during the holiday season and the town fiesta. The past year however was different. On Dec. 17, 2005 and Dec. 30, 2006, Baraseños were able to listen to the music of Baras Band. The past Christmas season however was very lame. Read the rest of this entry »

Bad news on the Net for Baras, Rizal

As far as the world wide web is concerned, 2007 is a bad year for Baras. Though the town is allegedly making progress as far as income and agricultural projects are concerned, it became more known on two high profile crimes it became involved with. Read the rest of this entry »
