Age and Sex Structure

Based on the 1995 census, Baras’ population is relatively young. Almost 63.82% of total population belongs to the age range of 5 to 29 years old. The age structure is shown in Figure 2. In the population projection(Table 3), the dominance of male in terms of number, is maintained. This is consistent with actual Population Distribution shown in Table 6. The proportion of male and female were derived by regressing census data from 1980, 1990, 1995 and 2000 Although, at the provincial level, female population is greater than the male population. Population Size

Based on the official census results, the population of Baras increased by 4,454 from 1995 to year 2000. The figures are shown below. The population share of Baras to Rizal province has been shrinking from 2.02% in 1980, down to 1.73 in 1990 and 1.53% in 1995. It is at this same period that the average annual growth rate of Baras had grown at a slower rate compared with the province of Rizal. Read the rest of this entry »

The population of Baras has been growing at an average of 3.99% in the span of the last 61 years, as against the average provincial growth rate 3.49%. From 1990 to 1995, Baras has grown at an average annual rate of 3.24% against the province’s 5.53% growth. The historical trend for both Rizal and Baras is shown in Table 1. It can be observed that the highest growth rate of Baras was exhibited in the years 1975-1980. The growth rate slowly decreased from period 1980-1990 until period 1990-1995. It began to increase again towards year 2000 (Figure 1). At an average annual increase of 4.01% in 1995-2000, it is expected that Baras population will double in 2016.

Land’s Vegetation

The Land’s Vegetation

The traditional vegetative cover of the majority of Baras are predominantly mangoes and fruit-bearing trees. These cover about 2,263.10 hectares or 27.33% found in the middle hilly portions of the municipality. Bamboo growth in small pockets, covers a small 0.0027% of the area or 22.22 hectares. Irrigated rice paddies found in the lower southern portions comprise about 499.57 hectares or 0.06% of the land cover.  Cogonal areas are about 1,387.76 hectares or 16.76% of the area, which bound the mountainous regions. Grasslands which is the second largest in area comprises about 1,831.16 hectares or 22.11%. Non-irrigated ricelands cover 1,032.44 hectares or 12.47% of the municipality, which are found interspersed in the valleys and plains surrounding the hills and mountains. A source of pride for the municipality is its remaining 1,115.37 hectares of primary growth forests in the Sitio San Roque/ Mt. Susong Dalaga area and the Mt.Puruputo area, which is equivalent to 13.47% of the municipality. Read the rest of this entry »
